Shakshuka Recipe | Shakshouka | Chakchouka

Today’s recipe is ‘Shakshuka’. Shakshuka is an egg dish in which eggs are poached in the gravy of tomato, bell peppers, garlic, and onion. The gravy for this dish is spiced with red chili powder, cumin seed powder, and red chili flakes.

It is a famous Mediterranean dish which is healthy and super easy to prepare. You can serve it as breakfast or main course dish. This dish one pot dish, which is addicting. It goes well with bread and flatbread.

For Shakshuka recipe , you need following ingredients –

Eggs, tomato, tomato puree, red/green bell peppers, red chilli flakes, roasted cumin seeds, salt, red chilli powder, oil, Cheese (optional)and sugar (optional).

Method for Shakshuka - 

  • In a deep pan, heat oil.

  • Add chopped garlic and onion. Saute till golden and raw smell fades away.

  • After that add chopped bell peppers and green chilies. Stir-fry till veggies are tender. 

  • Next, add chopped tomato, tomato puree and all the spices. Mix well and cook for 4-5 mins.

  • Lastly, break eggs directly in the tomato and veggie sauce carefully. Sprinkle some grated cheese over eggs, if you have cheese available at home.

  • Cover and cook for 10-15 mins. Cook till eggs whites are cooked and tomato sauce is reduced and not runny. 

  • Serve hot with bread or chapati!
