Today’s recipe is Paneer Kofta . It is my mother’s recipe and tastes so delicious that I can’t even explain it to you 😀 . This one is one of the easiest recipe of kofta, and I totally recommend it to you. This kofta recipe can be served as main course dish for lunch and dinner. Enjoy it with hot chapati, naan, paratha or jeera rice.

In this recipe, you need paneer (cottage cheese), potatoes (for binding), few spices and cornflour for balls. For gravy you need onion, tomato, ginger garlic, cream and few spices. Ingredients for Paneer Kofta

For koftas/cottage cheese balls
Paneer/Cottage Cheese125 gms
Boiled Potato 2 (medium size)
Salt1/2 tsp or as per taste
Green chilli3 (large)
Cornflour1 tbsp
Red chilli powder1 tsp or as per taste
Roasted cumin powder1 tsp
Mint Leaves2 tsp
Oilfor deep-frying
For Gravy -
Cream2 Tbsp
Onion1 large
Tomato (for puree)3-4 (medium)
Water1/2 cup
Ginger garlic paste1 tsp
Salt1/2 tsp or as per taste
Red chilli powder1 tsp or as per taste
Turmeric powder1/2 tsp
All spice powder / garam masala1/2 tsp
Coriander powder2 tsp
Oil2 Tbsp

Method for Paneer Kofta

  • In a mixing bowl, either crumble or grate paneer/cottage cheese.

  • In the same bowl, grate boiled potato.

  • Next add, chopped green chillies, red chilli powder, salt, cornflour, roasted cumin powder, and chopped mint leaves.

  • Mix everything well.

  • Start preparing balls of equal size.

  • Coat each cottage cheese ball with cornflour.

  • Heat oil in a deep pan, start deep-frying balls on low-medium heat carefully.

  • Remove balls on an absorbent paper, keep balls aside.

  • Use same oil and start browning onions in it on low heat. Keep them aside and let it cool.

  • Grind brown onions in a grinder.
  • Heat two tablespoon oil in a pan, add brown onion paste and bay leaf in it.

  • Next, add ginger garlic paste and cook on low heat till raw smell of ginger garlic paste fades.

  • Add tomato puree and all the dry spices, cook for 2-3 minutes on medium heat.

  • Add cream, all-spice powder/garam masala and half cup water, stir gravy nicely on low heat. Let it boil and let oil separate on top.

  • For serving koftas, in a bowl take koftas and pour gravy directly on the koftas.
  • Garnish with the mint leaves and serve hot immediately.
