Hi everyone ! Today’s post is about ‘Top ten source of food for healthy hair’.  Yes, no recipe today. For healthy, beautiful and shiny hair it is very important what you add in your diet. Be it your skin or hair, healthy body leads to healthy hair and healthy skin. There are food that give healthy and lustrous hair.

First let us understand structure of hair strand in brief before moving forward. Hair consists of three layers, each layer is made up of the medulla (inner most layer) , cortex (middle layer) and cuticle (outer layer).

Eating right and in correct balance daily will lead to a noticeable difference in your hair. Best vitamins and minerals you need daily for healthy, lustrous and shiny hair are:

Protein

Hair is made up of protein, more precisely keratin. Ensure that you have your daily intake of protein. Daily 20% of your calories should come for protein for strong hair. If you have brittle, weak and dry hair, then the reason behind it could be less intake of protein.

Few examples of food reach in protein for vegetarians are soy, tofu, dairy products like milk, curd, paneer, cheese, nuts, oilseeds, beans and pulses and for non vegetarians are chicken, turkey, fish, dairy products and eggs are excellent sources of protein.

Carbohydrates

Carbohydrates are common source of energy, which help in the growth of body tissue. One can consume complex carbohydrates like vegetables, fruits , whole grains and brown rice rather than simple sugars and white flours for healthy body and hair. In healthy daily diet 55-60% total dietary calories are derived from carbohydrates present in plant foods such as cereals, millets and pulses.

Omega-3

Omega 3 fatty acids are essential fatty acids. Our body is not capable of producing them on its own. For healthy hair and good textured hair our body needs omega-3 rich food in our diet. Few examples of Omega- 3 food for vegetarians are vegetable oils, whole grains, legumes, walnuts and oil seeds, flaxseed oil, avocado, chia seeds, spinach and pumpkin seeds and for non vegetarians are salmon, tuna, trout, cod liver oil oysters and egg yolks.

Vitamin A

Vitamin A helps in secretion of sebum, sebum is an oily substance secreted by our sebaceous glands which helps in keeping hair healthy and prevents hair loss, itchy and dry scalp. Although do keep in mind that excessive intake of vitamin A may lead to toxicity. Due to toxicity you may experience hair loss. Food that are rich in vitamin A are carrots, spinach, peaches, pumpkin, broccoli, apricot and sweet potatoes.

Deficiency of vitamin C leads to dry and split ends in hair. It improves hair growth and prevent dandruff. Vitamin C prevents hair damage and disorders. It also helps in preventing hair greying. There are various food sources that contains vitamin C. Citrus fruits like orange, lemon and grape fruits are some example of food rich in vitamin C. Fruit and vegetables that contains huge content of vitamin C are red, green and yellow bell peppers, strawberries, cantaloupes and kiwi fruits.

Vitamin E

Vitamin E is not only good for skin and heart, but also promotes hair growth and shine. The role of this vitamin in having healthy hair is well-known. Some food that contains vitamin E are peanuts, hazelnuts, sunflower oil, almonds, avocados, sesame oil, tahini, asparagus, sweet potatoes, broccoli, turnip, spinach and olive oil.

Zinc is a very important mineral for healthy hair, skin and nails. Zinc prevents hair loss. Deficiency of zinc and biotin is one of the definite reason of hair loss. Zinc helps stimulate certain hormones that are linked to hair loss. Zinc help in stabilising these hormones, and that is why zinc plays a vital role in preventing hair loss. Food rich in zinc are legumes, mushrooms, non-fat dry milk, spinach, whole grains, pumpkin seeds, peanuts, sunflower seeds, oysters, dark chocolate and eggs.

Biotin (Vitamin H)

Biotin is also known as vitamin H that comes from german word Haar, which means hair. Now you understand how important this vitamin is for healthy hair. Biotin is water-soluble vitamin. Deficiency of it leads to brittle, dull and weak hair. Food that are high in biotin are almonds, meat, milk, nut, legumes, eggs, mushrooms, avocado, peanut butter, cauliflower, berries, banana and cheese.

Iron help in carrying oxygen to hair. We all know what happen when hair is starve of oxygen. One can increase iron content by having green leafy vegetables, whole grains, pomegranate, chickpeas, liver, oyster, fortified cereals, pumpkin seeds, soya beans, lentils, beans, spinach and sesame seeds.

Water gives hair its moisture, moisture makes hair supple. Make sure to have your daily intake of eight-ten glasses of water to flush out all the toxins from the body.

Aloo Shimla Mirch Do Pyaza

Hi everyone ! Today’s recipe is ‘Aloo Shimla Mirch Do Pyaza’. It is a simple dish with main ingredients as aloo (potatoes), shimla mirch (capsicum/bell peppers) and onion. You can enjoy this dish as main course during lunch or dinner.

For all those who want to know, why and when we call any dish ‘do pyaza’ ??? The answer is that in any dish when you add onion twice or in double quantity of other vegetables/ingredients that dish is named as do pyaza. In this dish we are going to add double quantity of onion in comparison to aloo (potatoes) and shimla mirch (capsicum/bell peppers). So if you love onion, then this recipe is for you.

Serve: 2-3
Duration: 10 minutes (prep time) + 30 minutes (cook time) = 40 minutes (total)

Ingredients for Aloo Shimla Mirch Do Pyaza

Potatoes 2 medium size

Onion  2 large size

Capsicum 3 medium size

Tomato paste 4 tbsp

Red chilli powder 1 tsp

Cumin seed powder ½ tsp

Salt ¾ tsp as per taste

Garlic paste 1 tsp

Oil ½ cup or 2 Tbsp

Procedure for Aloo Shimla Mirch Do Pyaza 

  • Peel potatoes and cut them in small pieces.
  • Heat oil and stir fry potatoes for 3-4 minutes. Cover the pan and cook potatoes for 8-10 minutes or till potatoes softens and turn golden in color.

  • Add garlic paste in the pan and cook till raw smell of garlic completely vanish.
  • In the pan add all the dry masalas and tomato paste. You don’t need to add water in it. Cook for sometime.

  • Cut onion and capsicum of same size as potatoes. Add capsicum and onion in the pan. Cook for 2-3 minutes on high flame. Let the ingredients cook till oil separates.

Note:
  • In case you want slight sweet taste in the recipe instead of spicy flavour, you can use 2 tbsp tomato paste and 2 tbsp tomato ketchup.
  • For paneer do pyaza all you need to do is replace aloo and capsicum with paneer.

Chikoo Vanilla Milkshake

Hi everyone ! ♥ Today’s recipe is ‘Chikoo Vanilla Milkshake’. Chikoo is another summer fruit which is quite affordable and easily available in local vegetable markets these days. For this recipe I have used organic chikoos, they were so sweet in taste that I skipped sugar in my milkshake. I felt amazing satisfaction after having this milkshake today. 😀 I am sure every chikoo fan will enjoy this recipe. This milkshake is quite energetic one as chickoos are naturally sweet and contains fructose and sucrose.

Ingredients for Chikoo Vanilla Milkshake

Chikoo 6 no. (medium size chopped)

Vanilla 3-4 drops

Milk 2 cups

Almonds 6-7

Ice cubes 1 cup

Sugar optional

Procedure for Chikoo Vanilla Milkshake

  • Wash, peel, remove seeds and chop chikoo in small pieces.

  • Put chikoo pieces in a big glass along with vanilla essence, milk, almonds and ice cubes.

  • With the help of a hand blender, blend everything into a creamy smooth milkshake.
  • Chikoo milkshake is ready to be served. Pour milkshake into serving glass and serve chilled.

Note:
  • Chikoo milkshake should be ideally taken immediately.
  • If your chikoo is very sweet in taste skip sugar.
  • Use fully ripe chikoos for milkshake. Ripe chikoos are naturally very sweet taste and unripe ones discharge sticky latex.
Some health benefits of chikoo/chickoo:
  1. Chikoo is good source of dietary fibre.
  2. It has high levels of Vitamin C and Vitamin A, which help to keep healthy skin and healthy eyes.
  3. It energies body by providing instant energy due to high level of fructose and sucrose.
  4. The paste of chikoo seeds and castor oil is applied on the scalp to get rid of the dandruff.

Easy Eggless Chocolate Cake

Hi everyone ! Today’s recipe is ‘Easy Eggless Chocolate Cake’. This recipe is simple and as name suggests easy to recreate. In this recipe I am using condensed milk instead of eggs, it helps in making moist and soft cake. Do give this recipe a try and share this recipe with your friends and family. Duration: 10 mins prep time + 50 mins cook time = 1 hour (Total duration)

Ingredients for Easy eggless chocolate cake

Maida (plain flour) 100 gm or 1 cup

Milkmaid (condensed milk)  half small size tin

Milk 1/2 cup

Vanilla essence 1 tsp

Oil 1/2 cup

Powdered sugar 2 tbsp

Cocoa powder 1/4 cup

Soda-bi-carb 1/2 tsp

Baking powder 1 tsp

Procedure for Easy eggless chocolate cake

  • Sieve maida, cocoa powder, soda and baking powder together. Keep aside.

Sieve all dry ingredients together

  • Beat sugar and milkmaid till fluffy. Add oil. Beat well.
  • Add milk and essence. Add maida mix. Beat well for 3-4 minutes till the mix is smooth.

Beat dry and wet ingredients together.

  • Pre heat your oven at 200 C (convection mode) for 4-5 minutes.
  • Take a microwave proof glass dish. Grease the dish well. Pour the cake batter in it.

Grease microwave safe dish. Dust it with maida.

  • Bake at 150 C for 50 minutes on the convection mode or until a wooden pick/knife inserted in the centre comes out clean.

Check whether cake is properly cooked from centre.

  • Let it stand for 5 minutes in the microwave.
  • Let it cool. Transfer it to serving plate. Divide in equal size pieces.
  • Your cake is ready to serve.

You can garnish your cake with chocolate sauce and walnuts pieces.

Chana Dal Pulao (kabuli)

Hi everyone ! Hope you all are doing great. Today’s recipe is ‘Chana Dal Pulao’, other name for this dish is kabuli.  Chana dal pulao is a effortless recipe. This pulao is nice change from chicken/meat/vegetable pulao. It will bring a change of taste. Do give it a try, it is worth trying. So, let us get started with recipe…

Duration: 30 mins

Ingredients for chana dal pulao (kabuli)

Chana dal 250 gms

Rice 500 gms

Tomatoes chopped 2 nos.

Green chillies 10 nos.

Onion Chopped 4 medium size

Red chilli powder 1 tsp

Salt as per taste

Coriander powder 2 tsp

Cloves 3-4

Black peppercorn 5-6

Cinnamon stick 2″

Ginger garlic paste 4 tsp

Black cardamom 1 no.

Curry leaves 8-10

Bay leaves 2 nos.

Oil 3 tbsp

Procedure

  • Wash chana dal thoroughly and boil it along with salt and 2 tsp ginger garlic paste.

  • If you are cooking it in a pressure cooker like me, then cook it for 3 whistles.
  • Check whether chana dal is tender and yet separate from each other or not. Strain chana dal and keep it aside. Do not throw away excess water in which chana dal is cooked. You can use this water for cooking rice.

Boil dal with enough water.

  • In the pressure cooker, heat oil and add chopped onion, ginger garlic paste, cloves, black cardamom, bay leaves, black peppercorn and cinnamon stick. Cook till onions are nicely done and turn translucent in color.

  • Add green chillies and curry leaves cook for few minutes.

  • Now add chopped tomatoes and all the dry masalas. Cook for 3-4 minutes.

  • In the above mix add chana dal and cook for few minutes, add water (water quantity you want here is same as we need for cooking plain rice i.e. double the quantity of rice and dal mix) and bring it to boil. In the meanwhile, wash rice thoroughly.

  • When water starts boiling, add rice and close the lid of cooker. Cook for two whistles, let pressure drop.
  • Your kabuli is ready to serve ! Serve it with curd/green chutney/chilli garlic chutney .

Jhatpat ratlami sev paratha (sev stuffed paratha)

Happy Tuesday everyone ! I hope you’re all having a yummy week. Today’s recipe is ‘Jhatpat ratlami sev paratha’. I am very happy to share this recipe with you all as this is my easiest recipe on this blog. You can have it in any meal. This recipe is a nice change from regular vegetable stuffed parathas that we all have normally. All you need is dough, ratlami sev and oil to fry. But if you have time and you want to give it that extra flavour you can add onion, coriander and mint leaves to this recipe. Let’s get started with the recipe…

Duration: 5 mins prep time & 5-7 mins / paratha cook time

Ingredients for Ratlami sev paratha

Whole wheat dough 2 cups

Ratlami sev 2-3 cups (crushed in small pieces)

Oil/ghee/butter to fry

Procedure

  • Knead the dough for parathas. Divide it in small equal size balls.
  • Now take one ball at time and start preparing small dough circle.
  • Place 1-2 tbsp sev in the centre and carefully close it.

  • Again start rolling the parathas.

  • Heat a skillet and place the paratha on it. Keep it on high flame.
  • When paratha is cooked partially from one side flip it on other side.

  • At this stage spread oil/ghee/butter on partially cooked side. Flip again and cook it fully this time.
  • Spread oil/ghee/butter on the other side too and let the paratha cook till dark brown small spots starts appearing on it.
  • Prepare all the remaining parathas like this. Serve it hot with pickle/chutney/ketchup.

Note:

If you are using nylon bhujia then add additional masalas such as chat masala, cumin podwer and salt in this recipe. For extra flavour you can add onion,coriander and mint leaves to this recipe.

1.What is one positive and one negative aspect of blogging according to you?

Ans: Positive aspect of blogging is that you can share your views/creativity with others from any part of the world. This is your platform to show the world your creativity.

Negative aspect: As of now I found none. 🙂

2.What is the one most hilarious thing about you?

Ans: I have obsession for hygiene 😉 I just can’t stand anything unhygienic, you can call me Monica from F.R.I.E.N.D.S. 😛

Ans: I enjoy watching superhero and romantic movies. My favourite movies are X-men(series) and pretty woman (from romance genre).

Ans: My favourite beauty brand is Maybelline. Most of my make up products are from this brand. They offer quality products for every pocket and that’s what I love about them. Make up products should reach to every girl from college going to professionals.
